If you’re excited and want to get started straight away, I’ve got something for you:

The Year 1 Active Activity Pack

Over 20 games and activities to support your child's reading progress!

All of these activities are additional to what I’ll share in the masterclass.

Not only are they great to have handy over the Summer holidays (for when you need something quick to keep your little ones occupied), but they’ll also help your child start the new school year strong, ready to learn and having made progress throughout the 6 weeks.

Reasons to get this activity pack:

Your child is learning to read and you want to boost their progress at home.

You want to prevent the summer backslide that so many children go through, and have them start school ready to continue their learning.

You want to build your child’s confidence so they’re ready to read next term.

You want some fun, easy, resource-free activities to do with your child over the summer.

The Active Reading Activity Pack is your answer to all of these.

I’ve put together over 20 games and activities for you to do with your child that will help them in all areas of reading, including:

  • communication
  • blending skills
  • phonics
  • vocabulary
  • fluency and
  • comprehension

Whether you want your child to be able to speak more confidently in a class of 30, or to build their comprehension skills so they can get the most out of the books they read, it’s in this pack.

Each activity comes with a clear explanation of how to play, and how it’s helping your child maintain their reading progress, while still being active and involving! I’ve also included some bingo cards and other resources for even more ideas on how to engage your child with reading at home!

FAQs

This activity pack is aimed at children who have already started reading, so it will suit any child aged 5 or over. The activities can be adapted to any age range above this, so you can keep using them for years to come!

Absolutely! All the games and activities apply to all children as they develop their reading skills, no matter where you are in the world. The content applies, wherever you are!

Every time you play a game, your child will get better at the skill it focuses on, so there is no ‘end point’ to the pack. You can keep using it again and again. These games can be adapted for older children as well, so your child can keep playing them for years to come.

No! The beauty of this activity pack is that it requires no resources, not even a printer! You can take every single one of the activities and implement them straight away. All you need to do is choose one, read it, and then play it with your child. I have included some bonus resources that you can print and cut out if you want to, but you absolutely don’t have to!

Some of the activities are even easier than that. I’ve worked hard to include things that can be done on-the-go, or included in your day when you have a few minutes of free time, or even just a moment when you need to entertain your child.

You can open the download on your phone and just refer to it whenever you fancy doing something to prepare your child!

I currently offer a free, private 1:1 session for every parent where we dive in to your concerns and queries about your child’s reading.

We’ll work together to assess your child against the 6 steps for reading, work out where their reading roadblocks are (if there are any!) and discuss what they need to do to reach the next step. We’ll talk about what you can reasonably fit into your lifestyle and I’ll give you a series of games and activities that suit you and your child.

We’ll then work together to discuss how you can fit these activities into your day-to-day life to ensure your child makes amazing progress, quickly!

But wait, who am I?
How do I know this will help?

I’m Jen, a Primary School teacher, Dyslexia tutor and parent support coach. I’ve been a teacher for nearly a decade and have taught Nursery, Reception and KS1 (as well as a few other ages too!). I’ve taught hundreds of children to read, and I’m passionate about supporting parents to do the same.

We all know that our kids learn best when they’re having fun, and we also know that reading is one of the most important things our kids will ever learn. That’s why I’ve put together this pack of games that will help your children make progress with their reading, whilst also being active and enjoying themselves.

If you want to make sure your child keeps making progress over the summer, or you just want some activities that you can do together, this pack is full of ideas that will help!
