As our children start a new term in the school year, it’s time to start thinking about their next steps!
There’s a huge jump from the Autumn to the Spring term and in this session, I’ll explain exactly why that is and how you can support your kids at home so they take this step with ease.
This masterclass is for you if:
- Your child knows most of their single letter sounds confidently.
- Your child is starting to learn digraphs and you want to know how to support them with this tricky step.
- You want to make sure your child doesn’t hit a stumbling block when it comes to recognising new sounds and instead finds it easy to read longer and more complicated words.

There’s a large step up in difficulty from learning single letter sounds to digraphs and trigraphs. This is often where children start to struggle, or think that reading is ‘too hard’.
In this masterclass, I’ll show you the activities and strategies I’ve used in my classroom, with my 1:1 students, and that I’ve given to many parents over the years. These strategies will have a huge impact on your child’s reading and the best part is your child will feel like they’re playing as well as learning.

We'll talk about:
- What kids have covered in school so far this year, and how to be sure your child is ready for this next step.
- What a digraph is and how to teach them to your child (and trigraphs too!), including which ones to start with, and tips to help your child recognise and remember them.
- How to support your child to spot digraphs and trigraphs within words, so it becomes second nature to them.
- How to help your child build up stamina for reading, so they're able to read and understand more content more quickly.
- Ask your questions and get the answers instantly.
During this live session, you’ll also have the chance to ask any questions you might come up with, and get almost instantaneous answers. There’ll also be time afterwards to ask more general questions about your child’s reading and get support specific to you.
